Martingale Collars, also known as Greyhound, Sighthound, or Humane Choke Collars, were originally designed for breeds whose heads are smaller than their necks. These breeds require a Martingale Collar, featuring a double loop design, which prevents them from slipping out of their collar.
How a Martingale Collar Works: The large loop is placed over your dog’s head, and then the metal slide is used to adjust the collar so it fits loosely against your dog’s neck. Your dog’s leash is then attached to the D-ring on the smaller loop (made of nylon webbing or a metal chain). As your dog pulls, the tension on the leash draws the small loop taut, which makes the large loop smaller and tighter around your dog’s neck. The Martingale Collar stays snug against your dog’s neck until the tension eases. The design of the Martingale Collar prevents the collar from pressing against your dog’s throat and constricting its airway.
Large Martingale Collars fit a neck size range of 13" - 21". If your dog requires a custom collar, please send us an e-mail with your dog's neck size and the collar of your choice. Each collar is made with 1" wide high tensile strength nylon webbing and a choice of either a metal chain or a nylon webbing loop. Some dogs (like Chelsea!) prefer the sound of the metal chain loop while other dogs require nylon webbing loops. Stress points are quadruple stitched for durability.
